Affinity Place was packed with black and gold, and red and white as the Estevan Bruins faced off against the Weyburn Red Wings.

This was the first of a two-game series. The Red Wings were off to an early lead, culminating in a three-point lead by the second period.

“It was unfortunate that we didn’t have a great effort at first,” said Bruins head coach Jason Tatarnic. “We had some chances of scoring. We didn’t, but overall, it’s just not good enough.”

The Bruins picked up steam heading into the third period, but were unable to recover. They had a valiant effort, but ultimately the Red Wings secured a 4-0 victory.

Tatarnic noted that the turnout was great, so it was disappointing that the team couldn't deliver a better performance and showcase their skills.

The Bruins will travel to Weyburn tomorrow, aiming to end their losing streak against their Highway 39 rivals.

“If we win the game there tomorrow, we will finish in seventh and play Melford,” said Tatarnic. “If we don’t win and Kindersley gets a win then we are finishing eighth, and we will have a long trip to Flin Flon.”

Tatarnic emphasized the significance of these games in the upcoming playoffs.

During the game, a highly anticipated live jersey auction took place, with proceeds benefiting the Kinsmen ice rink. The total amount raised will be tallied following the conclusion of the online auction.
