The Estevan Curling Club is encouraging more people to sign up to curl this winter after most of last season was cancelled due to the pandemic.

In particular, the club has some openings in their evening leagues.

"The Wednesday rec league has a few openings yet, and we have a couple openings left in the Thursday open league," said Manager Pauline Ziel-Grimsrud.

"We certainly would like to get a few more people to come out and curl and hopefully come upstairs and enjoy our lounge. Even people can come and just watch the curling, because we're open to the public," she added.

All of the leagues are scheduled to start next week, with the first one kicking off on Monday Oct. 25. There is also drop-in curling every Monday and Wednesday afternoon that is open to everyone.

Curlers who are 18 or older will have to wear a mask while playing, at least to start the season. Curlers under 18 will not have to wear a mask.

"I think for some people they're unsure of how much they'll enjoy playing with their mask on, but we did do it somewhat last year and it really wasn't that prohibitive because it is cool out there so it's not as trying as one might think it would be."

The club is also excited about their revamped pro shop.

"We're really happy to have that available for not just the Estevan Curling Club members but any curlers in the southeast are more than welcome to come and look at our products," Ziel-Grimsrud said.
