The 40th Annual Estevan Strippers Spring Bust Hockey came to a close on Sunday.

Steve Godfrey, a member of the Estevan Strippers, said that the community support for the event was great.

“Everybody was happy that all the teams were getting out to all the establishments and supporting everybody in Estevan. They didn’t spend all their time just with us or you know at the hotels and lounges, and you know going to visit everything, and everybody.”

Each year, the Strippers aim to host an event prioritizing fun and camaraderie rather than competition. Godfrey noted that while there is a winner of each division, most players just enjoy getting out on the ice one last time for the season.

One of the highlights of the event was the Frank John Oldest Player Award. Greg Sharf, the 73-year-old from Portage La Prarie, Man. was given the award. Godfrey noted that both Sharf and his son were playing on the same over-45 team which is fairly rare in the tournament.

The tournament was halted for a couple of years due to COVID, but it has regained momentum and continues to be a highlight for senior hockey players and the community.

“It’s been a great year and talking to all the teams they are just chomping at the bit looking forward to what the dates are for next year, and when they can come back,” said Godfrey.
