The Garden on 4th had a bit more work done to help beautify the space, by adding a bit of art to the scenery.

Gale Tytlandsvik manages the garden, with help from many local volunteers.

The garden itself is located on a narrow strip of land between Sasktel and the Salvation Army, which has its water and power provided by Sasktel.

Tytlandsvik says the garden has been improved by a trio of murals painted by her and another volunteer.

"We do have three new murals here in the garden. the first one on the south side of the garden was done by myself, and the middle one was done by Brenda Blackburn who is a retired teacher from Spruce Ridge and a wonderful artist. she and I painted the sunflower mural on the back, we painted this one together, it was a joint effort.

"There's been a lot of really nice responses," said Tytlandsvik, "We've had lots of comments and lots of people coming in to take selfies and baby pictures and wedding pictures so that's really nice."

Besides the murals, the garden has also newly featured an attraction that many people have been taking advantage of - a herb garden, featuring a variety of plants.

"This year we actually did a herb garden in the garden which has been a big hit," said Tytlandsvik, "People are messaging me pretty much on a daily basis saying "got myself some parsley today!" or basil or whatever. Somebody's keeping the cherry tomatoes picked - it's hard to find a ripe one. So it's gone over really well."

The garden isn't quite done yet with renovations - Tytlandsvik is looking to bring in another piece that will accentuate the "art gallery" feeling she's going for.

"Over the course of the summer, my daughter's boyfriend is a welder, so he has been working diligently with me, volunteering his time, to help me build a screen to cover the air conditioner and door and all that."

"The plan for that is to add hooks so that people can come and hang their art on that section," said Tytlandsvik, "Since the murals have been framed, my thought is an outdoor gallery out here so hopefully there'll be lots of random art hanging there next year, where anyone can hang up their art here."

Tytlandsvik says she's expecting the screen to be done this fall or spring.
