Some precipitation is to be expected this weekend, and some of that will come down in a style that might not be too welcome for anyone hoping for a warmer fall.

We're likely to see snow falling this weekend, with a low-pressure system on its way from the west that will arrive over Estevan on Saturday and stick around for Sunday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Sarah Hoffman says that the weekend will at least start uneventfully.

"We're looking at a very near normal mix of sun and cloud weekend to start it off on Saturday," said Hoffman, "Then beginning that night we're going to have an area of precipitation move through the province starting in Alberta."

The precipitation will take the form of rain to start, and become snow later on, but there is a chance that areas will see a flash of freezing rain.

"The precipitation should start off as rain or freezing rain," said Hoffman, "There's a little chance of freezing rain on Saturday night and especially for areas as far north as Regina, and in that kind of area but that will quickly turn into snow, so if there is freezing rain it's not expected to be long-lived at all."

Any children looking to play in snowdrifts following the Sunday will be pretty disappointed, as higher temperatures will ensure they don't stick around long.

"When it switches over to snow, we're expecting accumulation to be pretty low," said Hoffman, "Ranging from anywhere from a light skiff of snow visible on the ground in the early morning, up to 2-4 centimeters of snow but nothing too intense and it will be highly localized."

The snowfall might bring some adverse conditions, as the increased amount of moisture followed by overnight lows near the freezing mark could result in slippery surfaces.

"It'll just be right near that freezing mark, so it might be cool enough to lead to some rain freezing on some surfaces," said Hoffman, "It'll be very close, so it might not actually create too much of an impact there but it will create some snow."

Precipitation is also to be expected around Tuesday, says Hoffman, but that'll be made up of rain.
