Rail Safety Week is underway this week. Persons who are walking near or crossing the tracks on foot can be charged. Plus they will be monitoring the railway crossings to see if the public are stopping properly too. Of course this is for everyone's safety.
Now from where I sit I think they should be checking the individual vehicles as they patiently wait for the extra long trains to pass by....perhaps they could walk along the lineups and just confirm that everyone is safe after waiting 10-15 minutes for the train to decide which direction it's really going. Quite often this is where safety comes into question, but I'd still like to witness this on each side of the tracks. I think it would bring a whole new meaning to "safety".....
Just a thought....travel safe!!

The potholes around town car be pretty rough on you car but if you're running over them anyway why not make a game out of it? Here at the station we decided to take a normally mundane activity, like playing board games, and we took to the extreme. Check it out.

Sure it was -30 outside, and yeah the windchill was -43, but the sun was shining, so why would we spend the whole day inside. Some of us from the station decided to go sledding anyway, and trust me, it was as much fun as it looked. Just remember if you're going to brave the cold you need to dress for the occasion. First you'll two pairs of socks or more on, at least three pairs of long underwear and it would probably be a good idea to wear boots of some kind, not low-cut nikes (Clayton). So no matter what the temperature is outside as long as you're dressed appropriately you'll have a great time! -Landon

Welcome to the New Year!
It doesn't seem like that long ago we were all running around buying gifts, making travel plans and baking all those holiday goodies. You know the ones I'm talking about....the ones we all try to stay away from over the holiday season or at least monitor the amount we take in...
Now here it is a week into January and it's full steam ahead for another year. Everyone's back into a groove and routine as the days fly by.....
Years ago I had an elderly fella share a couple of thoughts with me that just "stuck" and never left my memory bank. Ed has since passed on and we often think about him and talk about his simple way of life....
He often said "never let any grass grow under your feet" and "the older you get the wiser you get"....The one that seems to really hold true year after year is "the older you get the faster time flies."

Coming from a guy who used to watch Hockey Night in Canada like clockwork many years ago..(many)....I have to admit I don't miss the 5 games a week that we could see if the boys were on the ice.
Now the season has been dumped til the end of December and I'm not all that sad about it. I guess the reason would be it's all old News...."Headway was made"....."today they took several steps backward"....these are the comments I keep hearing. It doesn't really get my attention anymore.
From a local perspective things keep rolling along and people keep busy doing what's important to them when it comes to hockey. There are so many levels and leagues of local hockey that anyone wanting to watch a little can head to just about any local rink and be quite satisfied with the play.
The coolest thing about these leagues and different levels of local hockey is the fact that they are playing the game for the sake of playing the game. Having fun and playing a game they love.
Imagine that!!
