Bayer successfully completed its acquisition of Monsanto on Thursday.

Shares in the U.S. company will no longer be traded on the New York Stock Exchange, with Bayer now the sole owner of Monsanto.

Trish Jordan is the public and industry affairs director with Monsanto Canada and that overall they are pleased with the deal.

"It's a very important milestone," she said. "We are very pleased that the deal has closed and within the next couple of months and we are going to start to be able to intergrade the two companies. It's something that we've looked forward to for a long time."

Jordan says that Monsanto will operate independently from Bayer for a period of two months.

"As a condition of the US Department of Justice approval of the transaction, Monsanto will have to continue to operate independently from Bayer for an interim period while Bayer completes the sale of it's businesses to BASF and they anticipate that will probably take two months."

Jordan says both companies are focused on supporting farmers and giving them the tools to farm in a sustainable way.
