The U13 Estevan Murray GM Royals hockey team won a tournament in Midale over the weekend.

The Royals went undefeated in winning all four games and the six-team tournament. The Royals defeated the Estevan Panthers 5-1 in their opening game and followed that up with a 5-3 win over the Milestone Flyers in their other round robin game. In the semi finals they defeated the host Midale Mustangs 2-1 and then defeated the Estevan Panthers once again in the tournament final by a score of 4-3.

"The kids played hard all weekend," said head coach Kevin Sliva. "And it was just great to see whether we were down in the game, tied, or winning, it was all smiles and they were just happy to be there and played for each other. So it made it easy for us coaching."

The Royals got great goaltending from Quintin Sliva who posted a .942 save percentage over the four games. Offensively the Royals were led by Liam Stubel and Logan Hunt who had 10 and five points respectively at the tournament.

"The kids just found a way to score one more goal often in the games," said Kevin Sliva. "They're good character wins for the team and we'll hopefully add to that team bonding for the rest of the year."

The Estevan Royals took 1st place, the Estevan Panthers finished in 2nd place, and the Estevan Storm took 3rd place, so it was a great weekend of hockey for the local teams.
