The Estevan Bruins are headed to the second round of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Bruins thumped the Notre Dame Hounds 8-1 Saturday night in Game 5 at Affinity Place to win their best of seven first round series 4-1.

The Bruins dropped Game 1 in double overtime but rattled off four straight wins to clinch the series.

The Bruins top players were dominant on Saturday. Mark Rumsey, Olivier Pouliot, and Dayton Deics combined for eight points.

Hounds forward Connor Nolan broke the shut out in the third period.

Estevan outshot Notre Dame 48-30 and chased Hounds goaltender Austin Elliott early in the second period.

The Bruins will now get a few days off as they await their second round opponent.

Round two will kick off Friday night at Affinity Place.
