It was big day for southeast Saskatchewan. The sixth annual Radiothon-For-Life that took place on April 5th raked in over $191,000 for new endoscopy equipment for the St. Joseph's Hospital, showcasing the gladly open pockets of the region.

"We're very pleased with how it went. It was a tremendous day," stated Mayor Roy Ludwig.

City Councillors jumped in for the cause, challenging each other to donate.

"I thought it was great. It's always nice to have a little bit of fun and a few challenges to help spice up the day, and we all had a blast doing it."

"We have such generous people. We're probably the best community of our size, not only in the province but probably in the whole country, for volunteering and when there's a good cause, giving," he added.

Among the highlights of the day for everyone involved was the near closing time total of around $95,000 being matched by an anonymous donor.

"We understand that some people would rather not be recognized, but we thank them so much for their generous donation. That's what helps our community go 'round," Ludwig expressed.

He noted that the hospital essentially runs on the generosity of the community, as most of the capital costs come from donations.

"We always have needs at St. Joe's, and this money that is collected always goes to the costs that are in place that we need to better service the patients."
