A broken hand didn't bother an Estevan-born racer who still competed in a race in Minot despite the injury.

"I was racing a week-long tour, six nights six different tracks," said Connor Hanson, who was born in Estevan and raised on a farm near Torquaty "On the last night in Minot in my heat race I got kind of tangled up in a wreck and ended up breaking two fingers and getting a handful of stitches. The wait in Minot was too long so I said I'd be back after the feature (race). I was top three in points for the whole week."

"I said I'll see you later and kind of forced my way out of the hospital there. The nurse wasn't for it at all, but I signed a couple pieces of paper and I was on my way."

Hanson said he ended up going back to the track and racing in the feature race, finishing in fifth place.

"I was in the lead for a lap or two, and then I just started overdriving it and trying to use my broken hand too much, and it didn't really work out. It hurt for quite a while after that," said Hanson, who got stiches in Estevan and will be in a cast for six weeks.

Hanson injured his left hand, which is his strong hand.

"I'm left-handed in everything I do, so that was difficult to write with my right hand," he said.

Hanson said he hopes to race again on Canada Day.

"Hopefully I'll figure something out for July 1 to keep running for points in Estevan," he said. "Take it easy and hopefully it heals."
