The Estevan Bruins might be in COVID-19 protocol, but that didn't keep them from being active on the trade front ahead of Monday's trade deadline.

The team announced Monday that they acquired 2002-born defenceman Damon Byers from Melfort in exchange for a player-development fee.

The left-shot native of Edson, Alta. had two goals and three assists in 15 games with the Mustangs.

The 5-foot-10, 179-pound Byers has spent most of his junior career with the AJHL's Calgary Canucks, where he accumulated four goals and 13 assists through 65 games between 2019-20 and 2020-21.

The Bruins had their Friday game against the Hounds in Notre Dame and Saturday game at home versus the Yorkton Terriers postponed because of a number of positive COVID tests.

Their next games would be in Nipawin Tuesday and Melfort Wednesday, barring any further changes.
