The Estevan Bruins made another addition to their blue line, acquiring right-shot Billy Sowa from the BCHL's West Kelowna Warriors for a player-development fee.

Sowa, who was born in 2002, brings the list of defencemen on the Bruins roster to nine.

The 5-foot-8, 168-pound Calgary native began his junior career as a 16 year old. He scored twice and added seven helpers in 53 games that season with the WHL's Swift Current Broncos in 2018-19.

He was held off the scoresheet in 15 games with Swift Current the next season before going to the AJHL where he joined the Sherwood Park Crusaders. He had five assists there in 27 games.

Sowa logged on assist in three games last season with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in the AJHL, then one assist in 19 games with West Kelowna.

"Billy Sowa is a player that adds depth to our roster," said Bruins Head Coach and General Manager Jason Tatarnic in a team release. "He’s a player that can play big minutes and in all situations. We are excited to have him join our group.”

Left-shot blueliner Nolan Jones committed to the Bruins last week for what will be his 20-year-old season. Five of the nine defencemen shoot left.

Estevan wraps up its preseason in Weyburn Sunday at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Rock 106.
