The Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Campaign is in full swing and the Estevan contingent is hoping to contribute to the global initiative.

The campaign is geared towards helping disadvantaged children around the world by delivering shoeboxes full of gifts over the holiday season.

"Operation Christmas Child has been going into areas that are often war-torn, or disaster, or disease...they go in there and they bring these shoeboxes and it's often in areas where kids are hurting, and these kids are often getting a shoebox and a gift in general just for the very first time in their life," said Jillian Ursu, the drop off team lead for Estevan.

Estevan is holding its donation week this week at the Estevan Alliance Church. Anyone can stop by the church during the day this week or this weekend to donate items.

"You can pack things like hygiene items, or school supplies, and then those kind of 'wow' items like you know maybe a deflated sock ball with a pump, or a stuffy, or some kind of special toy or something like that," she said. "So kind of having a variety of different things is always a good idea."

Ursu said donators have the option to pack for either a boy or a girl, and can choose from three different age groups: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.

"Individuals can do it, organizations can do it, churches can do it, anybody basically can pack the shoebox," she said.

Ursu added that people can slip a personal note into their box so that the recipient knows where and who it's coming from. She also said the campaign encourages a 10 dollar donation to help with shipping and project costs.

Estevan Alliance Church is located at 140 King Street.
