MELODYE PIERSON:

With the demolition of the historic Civic Auditorium commencing this week, we reached out to our CJ1150 listeners on social media to share their memories about the building that gathered our community together for over 60 years!

The Pierson family are an institution in Estevan and specifically with the Estevan Bruins. Melodye herself called in to share an unbelievable story from the first year of the Civic, and described it in classic Melodye fashion!

Darcy Henry sent in the photo above from his young playing days 30 years ago. According to Darcy, pictured are members of the 1988 Canadian Tire Jr. Novice House team. Included in the photo is former Estevan Bruin Wade Grimes, and Darcy says they beat the Torquay Generals to win the tournament in the photo.

Tiffany Poage wrote in and sent a photo from the 'Flick-Fest Music Festival' that Estevan hosted after winning a national energy-saving competition put on by billionaire Sir Richard Branson. Tiffany's photo is of her and friends who worked the concert to keep the Civic clean, and she mentioned meeting Dallas Green from 'City and Colour'!

Rodney Pelletier, who worked as the ice technician in the Civic from 2005 - 2010, called into CJ1150 to share his memories of working day and night inside the Civic. He reminisced of some memorable games for the Bruins and the kind of atmosphere you felt in the building during a big game.

RODNEY PELLETIER:

Many other listeners wrote in their stories as well, attached in the photo below.

Please keep it coming! We'd love to hear more stories about the Civic either on social media or by calling in at (634-6468)!!!
