The start of 2017 will look and feel a lot like the end of 2016 for Estevan and southeast Saskatchewan.

Roughly five centimetres of snow fell on the holiday Monday to give the region another fresh coat of flakes to start the new year. Now, a return to more cool conditions is in store for the first week.

"An arctic ridge is building into the southeast, which will clear up the skies and cool the temperatures down a fair bit," explains Justin Knight, Regional Meteorologist with Environment Canada. "It will be below the normal high for this time of year (-10), we'll be looking at daily high's more around (-20).

However, Knight does not anticipate the temperatures getting close to the (-30) mark which Estevan experienced in mid-December.
