SaskEnergy is conducting a controlled natural gas flare at its block valve site in the RM of Enniskillen this morning, about three kilometers northwest of the Village of Glen Ewen.

Residents and drivers in the area may see a 40-foot flame being emitted from the flare stack temporarily attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure.

The flaring is necessary to perform maintenance work on the natural gas line system in the area and is done to support the delivery of natural gas, says SaskEnergy.

According to them, it also reduces the gas's carbon footprint by around 85% and is an industry-standard practice, says SaskEnergy.

The area around the flare will be supervised to ensure public safety. Residential natural gas service in the area will not be affected.

SaskEnergy says they have notified the Village of Glen Ewen, the RM of Enniskillen, and the local fire department about the upcoming flare.
