The Estevan Public Youth Center (EPYC) brought in around $9000 during its second annual cornhole tournament on the weekend.

EPYC Executive Director, Merissa Scarlett said the fundraiser was a success and that the money that was raised is crucial for EPYC to run smoothly.

"Whether it's keeping the doors open for programming or providing healthy snacks. It will support all of that and ensure our center remains open for youth to attend," said Scarlett.

Scarlett said the event wouldn't have been possible without the 22 teams that participated. She also credited the Kinettes for their help with bartending and other duties, Co-op for providing snacks, Days Inn for providing food and DJ Angela for keeping the energy high with her music.

As the center prepares to reopen this week, she said that the community has been supportive. Scarlett added that she has had discussions with community partners including the Art Gallery and Library about upcoming programming plans.

"I'm kind of reopening relationships and seeing where the community can really help EPYC grow. A lot of that will involve volunteering and businesses showing their support for the youth."

EPYC will reopen this Thursday, with a grand reopening pizza party set for Saturday. During that time Scarlett said she looks forward to meeting with the public and welcoming people to see the space again.
