The Village of Kennedy, population 187 (2006) is due north of Moose Mountain Provincial Park, 150 km northeast of Estevan. The district around Kennedy was settled by people of different origins who arrived via eastern Canada, United States, and Europe. British, French, and Belgian settlers began arriving in the 1880's, with German and Hungarians following in the early 1900's. The village was named after the mail carrier of the time, Findlay Kennedy.

Today Kennedy is home to a beverage room and restaurant, hardware store, credit union, shoe repair and leather sales shop, post office, and a handful of trades people and home-based businesses. There is also a library, United and Catholic churches, community hall, and rodeo grounds.
