Frost is an enemy of anything growing and it could very well show up in Estevan and the surrounding area tonight. Environment Canada issued a frost warning for numerous locations in the area as they said they expect temperatures to drop to about one degree this evening.

According to the advisory, the R.M. of Antler including Redvers, Antler, and Wauchope, the R.M. of Argyle including Gainsborough, and Carievale, the R.M. of Brock including Arcola and Kisbey, the R.M. of Browning including Lampman, the R.M. of Coalfields including Bienfait and North Portal, the R.M. of Enniskillen including Oxbow and Northgate, the R.M. of Moose Creek including Alameda, the R.M. of Moose Mountain including Carlyle and Manor, the R.M. of Mount Pleasant including Carnduff, the R.M. of Reciprocity including Alida, the R.M. of Storthoaks including Storthoaks and Fertile, and the R.M. of Tecumseh including Stoughton, Forget, and Heward are all affected by this warning.

"Frost may damage some crops in frost-prone areas," read the release from Environment Canada. "Take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees."

Earlier in the week, Environment Canada said the colder conditions in southern Saskatchewan may be caused in part by the smoke and haze from wildfires along the Pacific coast of the United States.

"We thought it would act as an insulator, so it would block the heat at the surface overnight," said regional meteorologist Sara Hoffman, "but what we learned is no, in fact, it does not block the heat overnight so it leads to a cooler daytime temperature and a cooler overnight temperature as well."

Tonight is the coldest it is forecasted to be in the southeast any time in the next few days. The overnight low should come back up to five degrees tomorrow and could be as high as twelve by Saturday.
