An Estevan man is speaking about just how much the STARS air ambulance has helped him and his family.

Troy Duncan was working one day when a tire rim he had been working on fell on his head, breaking many bones.

As he was alone, the situation was critical and when someone did find him it was crucial he be given medical attention as soon as possible.

That's where the STARS helicopter came in, helping Duncan and keeping him reassured through the process.

"They were all very professional, they were all very good. I don't remember a lot of it, I was kind of in and out. I thought I was in the hospital for about 15 minutes but I was in the hospital for four or five hours."

"The helicopter got there and then I just remember them taking me to the helicopter and they were always talking to me, always telling me it was going to be okay, really reassuring. They were just good, and then when we landed they were always telling me what they were going to do next and stuff like that. They were just excellent people."

He had a similar experience happen to his granddaughter, which further cemented the need for these services in his eyes.

"It's not just me. My granddaughter, she wasn't even two weeks old, she had to use the air ambulance to be flown to the child hospital in Edmonton for emergency heart surgery, she had two valves on her heart backward. So we're not just used the helicopter, we've also used the airplane."

Duncan says that getting people help in time is crucial, which is why events to support air ambulance services are always needed.

"I would just like to say to everyone in the Estevan and surrounding area that's listening, please go out and if you can't get into town to buy some cookies, or support the Co-op fuel campaign, maybe make a donation. like I said before, you'll never quite know when you'll need STARS and they are incredible."
