Crime is present in every community and Estevan is no exception. In 2017, the community of Estevan held a crime severity index of 75.19, increasing in 2018 to a 86.99, yet have been less reports of violence crimes.

Paul Ladouceur, chief of Police for the Estevan Police Service reports; "This year, compared to last year, we have seen a slight increase of the crime severity index. The good news is that Estevan is in the top two safest according to the crime severity index communities in Saskatchewan which is something we continue to be proud of".

Although these statistics do not express all factors that play out in the safety of Estevan's community, they do showcase the constant effort on all ends to ensure a more secure and comfortable family environment.

The police service feels there is always room for improvment and good isn't good enough when it comes to the protection of the people who place their trust in them. The service of the police force and how successful they are as an organization plays a major factor in the crime prevention component.

From a police standpoint, there has been more reports of meth cases recently but the drug intelligence unit is working hard to tackle, as well as many other minor crimes taking a soar. "When the economy declines, we see an increase in property offences go up such as theft, fraud, and other things of that nature which is not surprising".

More tactics from the Estevan Police Service will be unveiled in the near future on how to enhance their strategies and move forward with their business plan. A community satisfaction survey will be taken by local residents to place input as well to gain some feedback on how well the Estevan Police Service is providing for them and how they feel individually for the purpose of improvement.

Overall, Estevan is a welcoming environment where the majority of the public feels safe and comfortable in and the Estevan Police will continue to ensure the protection of the community.
