The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is providing $440,000 for four police positions in Estevan through the Municipal Police Grants program in 2021-22.

According to the provincial government, the funding for Estevan will support the implementation of a Police and Crisis Team (PACT), which comprises police officers and mental health workers who provide an integrated and coordinated response to persons experiencing mental health crisis in the community.

Saskatchewan Government Insurance is also providing $180,000 for one position as part of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan initiative.

Mayor Ropy Ludwig added, "We would like to thank the province for these funding initiatives in policing, which allow more manpower on the streets to keep our community safe, along with important initiatives such as drug intel, major crimes, and organized crime as well as traffic, which together will allow us to be better equipped and safer for our city."
