An Estevan Woman has won an award for her efforts volunteering and fundraising against Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system, and other organs in the body.

Research is being done to help those affected by it lead normal lives and that research is helped out by the donating efforts of people like Kasey McIntyre.

McIntyre has a history with setting up Cystic Fibrosis fundraisers, with the annual Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History included among them.

She says that the award is great because it helps to acknowledge that her actions and story have a greater impact.

"What's nice about the awards is that they acknowledge things that I've been doing over the last 10 years," said McIntyre, "Not just with the walk and that was nice because I know that my message has been going farther than just Estevan, and that's really special."

McIntyre also says that raising the amount of awareness towards the disorder is important for the Estevan community.

"We are all affected because of how we bring awareness to Cystic Fibrosis in our communities and beyond that, really," said McIntyre, "So to be acknowledged as that and getting the award was very kind to be thought of."

McIntyre plans to keep on going when it comes to fundraisers, starting with the next Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History that'll be happening in 2022.

That'll likely be in-person, unlike the last two years which had virtual walks, but McIntyre says they're prepared either way and will do their best.

They'll also fundraise for the walk by doing another bottle drive, which was a success during last year's walk.
