Thursday night's lone game in the Saskota Baseball League has set the stage for the finals of the playoffs to see who will play for the Harbourne Memorial Trophy in the modified playoffs this year. The Carlyle Cardinals came into the game with a 1-0 series lead over the defending champion Carnduff Astros.

The Cardinals put up another big night with a 7-1 win, defeating the Astros in two straight games to advance on to the finals.

That means this year, the final series will be a matchup of the 8-1-1 Carlyle Cardinals against the 8-1-1 Estevan Tap House Wolves.

In their lone meeting this year, the Wolves and Cardinals went to war with 25 runs in a single game between the two of them. The Wolves won that game 15-10.

That 15 runs the Cardinals gave up in that game is tied for the third-most runs a team has given up all year long in the Saskota Baseball League, which is uncommon because the Cardinals are the best team defensively in the league. They gave up a total of 35 runs during the regular season, nine less than any other team. The second-largest amount of runs put up by a single team this year was by the Cardinals, who had a 22-2 score over the Arcola Threshers this year.

The Wolves on the other hand are the league's best offense. Offensively, the Wolves threw up 124 runs in the regular season, 24 more than Carlyle in second. The Wolves also had the biggest win of the year with a 32-5 stomping of the Southeast Fireballs. The Wolves outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 runs throughout the season.

The Cardinals last won the championship in 2016, while the Wolves followed up with two straight in 2017 and 2018. The current four-year championship drought is the longest for the Cardinals since 1999-2004.

Games are likely to start on Tuesday.
