For Saturday night, the Big Six Hockey League had three games, the first of which was apart of a full day of hockey in Wawota.

Kipling/Windthorst @ Wawota

For the Kipling/Windthorst Oil Kings, this was a chance at revenge from a few weeks earlier when the Flyers took a 5-2 win over them on home ice, and because of it, they struck early.

About 3:30 into the game, Matt Bean brought the puck down the left side of the ice on a spread out 3-on-2. Bean took the puck into the corner with his head up and made a pass that skidded right in front of the crease and through some legs to the stick of Carson Harcourt, who then blasted it into the net to get the lead early on.

Just 18 seconds later, Harcourt returned the favour to Bean. This time, Josh Hassler turned the puck over at the blue line and sent a pass to Harcourt in the slot, but then found Bean over to the right side of the goalie, almost the exact same spot he was in when he scored, and Bean did the same to make it 2-0 Oil Kings.

The Flyers would break the ice before the end of the period however. Just under five minutes left on the powerplay, Taylor Earnst sent a puck out from behind the net towards Justin Lamontagne who was just left of the slot, where he fired it under the blocker to make it a one goal game.

The second period saw the Flyers tie things up fairly early, but the Oil Kings came back with their lead just seconds later. Riley Riddell was able to score for the Flyers on a wrist shot as he entered the zone to tie things up at two just under six minutes in.

Then 28 seconds later, the Oil Kings managed to strike back when a shot from Rodney Reid at the point rebounded in front. Tyler Wyatt got a whack at it first, but Josh Hassler was the one who was able to pot the rebound goal and the restore the lead for the Oil Kings.

About halfway through the period on the powerplay, Dylan Lamontagne took a shot up high and about four different sticks reached up to hit it down or tip it. The puck was tipped down and skittered across the goal line, but immediately the referee's deliberated in front of the penalty box. After a two minute discussion, the goal was called off due to a high stick.

The Flyers would still tie things up about two minutes before the end of the period on the best goal of the period. Rob West got the puck in his own zone on the left side faceoff dot. He was the only one on the ice not going for a change at the time, and in the mix of players at centre, he found Brady Dinwoodie coming off the bench along the blue line. West's pass was picture perfect to send Dinwoodie on the breakaway, where he went to work. Forehand, backhand, forehand, and backhand again, all between the hashmarks and the goaltender, and he tucked it in to tie it up for the Flyers.

After 2: 3-3 tie

The third period had just one lone goal, and it came early from the Flyers. Another great pass from West sprung Justin Lamontagne on a 2-on-1 down the right side of the ice, Trevor Stewart to his left. Stewart was open, but goalie Kevin Kryger was cheating towards his side of the net a touch, so Lamontagne fired an emphatic wrist shot passed the glove and into the net for the lead under two minutes into the period.

Later in the period, the Oil Kings end up with a great opportunity to tie things up again, but an offside call that should not have blown the play down cost them the chance before they could pull the goalie.

Final eight seconds, faceoff in the Flyers zone. Carson Harcourt took a shot right off the faceoff and Kye Stienke had to make the save, causing another faceoff with six seconds. This time though, the Flyers won the draw and Justin Lamontagne sent the puck down the length of the ice looking for the hat trick, but instead the buzzer went before the puck could cross the goal line.

FINAL SCORE: Wawota 4 - 3 Kipling/Windthorst
