As the temperature drops to frosty levels first thing in the morning and fall creeps closer, the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club will be making some adjustments their golfers may have to get used to. After all, just because the sun is up doesn't mean the course is completely open for business.

Frost on the fairways and roughing up the roughs is something green crews are going to have to take a little extra time to contend with this time of year. The course still hopes for four to five more weeks out of this season, so that means they'll have to deal with a little frost on the ground.

"Of course frost is a delay in the morning," said course head pro and GM Amanda Minchin. "Our grounds crew can't get on the golf course. You can't step on frost, you're going to kill the grass. So that delays us in the morning once we get going."

The grounds crews have done a good job maintaining the course so far, but mother nature hasn't given them much help. There's been no rain on the course for a long time, and this morning and tomorrow could both get cool enough for frost.

"It limits what they can do," Minchin said. "They can maybe go work on some other jobs as long as they're not going on the grass, but like I said, with the frost you can't head out there on the mower, you can't touch the grass. So it just delays everything a little bit, but it's that time of year."

With that in mind, tee times at the course might be starting a little later, though some good news may come from the fact that warmer mornings and even some rain are in the forecast. With the parent-child event from the weekend now done, there aren't many events left on the golf course calendar for 2020.

"It's a telltale sign of fall," said Minchin. "We had a taste of it ten days ago and then it got nice again. It's going to be interesting to see what happens here weather-wise in the next five weeks, but you can see the temperature is starting to fluctuate a little bit. That is definitely a telltale sign."

Minchin added they are still prepared to go right through to mid-October, but if the dry weather continues they're going to have to limit cart traffic in some areas because they've been so busy.
