The government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed May 27 to May 31 as Disability service professionals week.

Melanie Weiss Director of member services at SARC explains the purpose of the week and SARC itself

"SARC Members and there employees there are really a group with a network across the province, a group of tremendously skilled professionals that are very committed, very dedicated to the support they provide to people experiencing disability and we just wanted to be able to have a week and several forms of acknowledgment you know threw out this week to recognize our colleagues in the disability sector and the essential work and service they provide."

"This week is really about community inclusion and citizenship and it's about providing opportunities, independence, and choice for peoples experiencing disability across Saskatchewan and recognizing the vital role that the support staff in the sector play in supporting people that are experiencing disability to have those opportunities."

One of the main events for the week is the SARC spring conference which will be May 28 and 29 in Saskatoon which will bring together hundreds of professional staff from across the province to come in for a variety of keynote on concurrent speakers on best practices.
