Day 3 of Grain Rush and the winner's were an amazing group from the Torquay area. A fourth and fifth generation farm, home to the Holzer's.

They hosted our crew in their beautiful home, and with 9 adults and 4 kids we still had leftovers from our sponsors at KFC.

And when we sat down with Sabe Holzer he had this to say about his harvest, "We harvested our green lentils and about 3/4 of our chickpeas and now we switched to durum. And we have the brown mustard to do after the durum is finished."

"We seed 6000 acres," which is great for a multi-generational farm family. Which equates just over 9 sections. And they have anywhere from 4 to 6 guys working with their crops.

"Well, I'm the 4th and my boys would be the 5th, 1910 this was homesteaded by my great-grandfather."

This year's yields so far Holzer added this, "The lentils were below average because we got hit hard on June 14th when that huge hail storm went through the whole south along the border here. And Estevan was hit hard through the south there too, so everybody there would know what this is about. But the durum was really small when it hailed and I think the yields are above average."

In regards to winning Grain Rush, he had this to say, "Well, you know we all like to eat, chicken goes over really well in this house. We actually won this a few years ago in 2008 also."

"Oh yes, its who we are," when asked if Holzer enjoys farming.

And he has been listening to Lyle on CJ for over 30 years. It was a great time with a fantastic family and we wish them all the best for this year's harvest.
