Estevan's Habitat for Humanity has been working hard to start their first home build in the Energy City.

"We have received the land titles for the lot on Siller street, so the purchase is complete," shares Doug Barnstable, the chairman of the project's steering committee. "We've also applied for a building permit with the city, after that is completed we would be looking at getting some of the equipment in and start the excavation, we are working on trying to get various other parts of that picture in place."

This includes temporary power, an office trailer, a storage sea can for tools and temporary fencing to keep people from injuring themselves.

Typically Habitat for Humanity has an official ground breaking ceremony before the build starts, however with the 21 day wait the ceremony will be moved to September.

"We will do the ground breaking, then there will be a key ceremony at the completion of the construction."

Barnstable explains that the family is starting to get a little more excited everyday as the project is progressing.

"Hopefully we start building soon, providing that we get good weather and the schedule for building stays consistent.'

He reminds people to watch for indications of requests for volunteers, some of which will be coming through Habitat for Humanity's Facebook page.
