On January 24, the Estevan Chapter of Habitat for Humanity received a donation from Dr. David Peeace, a chiropractor in the city. He gave the final payment to total his contributions of $3500.

This puts the organization one step closer to their goal of building their first house in Estevan for a family that is in need.

"We're looking at funding requirements that we'll be needing in cash, which is likely around $60,000 by the time we start. That's the objective we have for the next couples of month," expressed Chairman Doug Barnstable.

How they will be doing this is with a few fundraisers. Some of them won't be announced until the start of February, but he alluded to one that will be happening in three weeks time.

"We are looking at 'A Night with the Bruins', where we are partnering with a company called Summit. They are interested in helping us raise funds for the build. The event will be held on February 18 and more details will come in the following weeks."

Other fundraisers, like steak suppers, are up in the air right now and will be revealed as the weeks progress.

The proposed lot for the build is still under consideration. Barnstable shared that they have to come up with about $90,000 before they can send applications to Habitat Regina. Once approved, that sum of money will be used towards purchasing the location, which will kickstart the build.

He's thrilled to see how this build brings the community together. Doug mentioned that a lot of people are willing to help out in the project.

"Most of the inquires that I have received are on volunteering at the build site. We've also seen an increase use of the website and the our email since the start of January. As well, when we talk to people about funding, they also put their name down for the volunteer side of it as well."

All in all, they are on-track with the project and they are pleased to see the community's response with the project. He wants the public to contact him at info@habitatestevan.ca for more information.
