Instead of taking a weaning calf and placing it in a dry loft, producers have a second option: placing the calf in a swath field.

Doctor Bart Lardner, a Research Scientist and Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, says during their research, they found that calves who stayed in the pen had more health problems compared to animals who ate in the field.

 

Doctor Lardner adds that other benefits to having calves eat in the field include not having to spread manure, which saves the producer time and money.
