Bruins thankful powerplay comes through on Monday
The Estevan Bruins notched a pair of wins over a three-game Thanksgiving weekend. That included a 4-3 victory over the Melville Millionaires on Monday afternoon that was sparked by a powerplay that has struggled early in the season.
Owen Barrow cashed in twice on the man advantage, and Ilia Chmelevski also scored on the powerplay, as it went 3-for-7. That raised the powerplay percentage from 8.8 to 14.6.
The Bruins also split a pair of 4-3 decisions against the Kindersley Klippers, with Friday's win coming via a shootout. Estevan is now 3-3-1, and will face the 5-0-1 Flin Flon Bombers at home on Friday.
Mixed bag for the Bears
The Estevan Bears were on opposite ends of games over the weekend that were not close.
Carter Onrait had two goals and an assist as Estevan beat the visiting Prince Albert Mintos 5-1 Saturday.
The Mintos flipped the script Sunday, blanking Estevan 7-0.
The Bears are 3-2-1 with a pair of games this weekend in Saskatoon against the 0-2-2 Contacts.
