A hot weekend is going to close off our relatively warm week.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada, Sara Hoffman, said that this weekend will continue to be warm and sunny.

"A high of 26 for Saturday and a high of 27 for Sunday. A ridge of high pressure is coming in from the South. Normal for this time of year is 27 so we are at the normal range."

We have seen quite a few storms in the Estevan area this Summer and many thing go into developing a severe thunderstorm.

"If you have a pool of cool air aloft coming into an area, you need warmer air at the surface to create that instability. It is a function of just how cold that cool air is and how hot that warm air is."

If we had a daytime high of 28 but had very cool temperatures coming in we could expect a severe thunderstorm.

"After a period of really warm temperatures we get severe thunderstorms because of the upper patterns. We have a giant mass of warm air sitting over the Praires right now and as this weekend comes we are going to get a big push of cold air off of the Pacific and that transition from warm to cold is going to cause those storms to fire."
