Local football coaches hit the road on the weekend to take in a coaching clinic in Regina with keynotes given by the Roughriders coaching staff.

A lot of valuable information was shared during the sessions, said U18 Viragos Head Coach Mark Tribiger. The highlight being the information taught by Saskatchewan Roughriders Head Coach Corey Mace, offensive coordinator Mark Meuller, and linebacker coordinator JC Sharon.

“A lot of dealing with and running programs. Basically, on the offensive side of the ball and the defensive side,” said Tribiger.

The southeast had good representation at the event with four coaches from Estevan Minor Football, and four coaches from Estevan Comprehensive School taking part.

“There were the U18 coaches at the high school, the U14 coaches from the minor football, the Phantom Oilers and then the U18 Viragos.”

During the sessions, they were able to discuss other teams' strategies, but it was also a great opportunity to network with other coaches.

The clinic was also a good opportunity for Tribiger to prepare for the upcoming Viragos Camp that will be held in Weyburn on April 21.

“We just want to see where everybody’s at and know where we’re at with having players left that were graduating age, and we’ve had some that decided not to come back this season for one reason or another. Whether it be injury or moving away," said Tribiger. " Anyone interested is still welcome to come over. Just let us know as soon as possible. It's kind of a kickoff for just going to be doing some evaluations of our players and see where they're going to best fit into the team for this fall."

The Viragos are on the lookout for more players to add to their roster. Tribiger said that they are currently working with a skeleton team. He added that anyone who comes out is going to be an asset to the team. For those wanting to attend the camp, Tribiger can be reached at 306-461-6424.

In addition to players, Estevan Minor Football is looking for volunteers for the upcoming season.

“We are always looking for Volunteers whether it’s referees or coaches or even if you just want to come to work the concessions, we’re always looking for people that get the job done on game day and practices.”
