A pair of doctors with plenty of experience working in Saskatchewan are setting up a new practice here in Estevan.

Dr. Ihab Kamal and Dr. Rania Eldin, who are married, are starting the new practice after years of working in the province.

Dr. Kamal has been servicing other Saskatchewan communities for three years, learning the provincial system.

"I moved over into Saskatchewan back in 2018, where I started working with the program in Gravelbourg and Lefleche and then I  worked there for three years. I had a very successful, prosperous, good practice in that region, but I chose to come here to join my wife and family in Estevan."

Dr. Enid also worked in Saskatchewan over the past two years, both of which she's spent in Estevan.

"I've been practicing for two years now, and I'm really enjoying it. I love my patients and I have a very good relationship with them. It was nice being there for two years, and I don't regret it."

The family had been apart for three years, with Dr. Kamal visiting on the weekends, both to locum at the hospital and to see his family.

That's soon to change with both of them working in the same clinic.

"I already love Estevan, I've been locuming here for a year, I know the hospital quite well, I know the people in the hospital quite well." "I was acquainted very well with the staffing and the working conditions, I was working very well and had no problems. I enjoyed it, and that's why I took the decision to move over and come here."

Working in small communities and cities is preferred for Dr. Kamal since he gets to know the patients that he works with.

"I think that working in a smaller community or a city is much more pleasant because you get to know your patients better. Here, the definition of a family physician is really implemented. You are a physician of the whole family, the grandparents, the parents, the children, and the grandchildren. So working in a smaller community as a doctor can be more pleasant."
