While the summer of 2017 has been on the extremely dry side of the spectrum, residents in Estevan will tell you that it doesn't take long for that to change in a devastating way.

It was one year ago on July 10th that over 5.5 inches (14cm) of rainfall drenched the Energy City in a three-hour window. That volume of water in that short span of time resulted in significant flooding throughout Estevan and a State-of-Emergency being put into effect.

Dozens, if not hundreds of residents, are still dealing with the aftermath as several basements were flood-damaged during the storm. However, the event was also a source of pride for the community as the preparation beforehand and the measured response following the flood were a shining example of the leaders in Estevan taking charge of the situation.

It was also a great sign of humanity for the citizens as neighbors did what they could to help each other out both during the storm and in the days and weeks of cleanup that followed.
