An internal report to the city at this week's council meeting outlined the latest progress on the Estevan pathway project.

The report said all of the concrete work has been completed, and all of the asphalt work that can be done this year is complete as well. The entire pathway now stretches over 13 kilometres.

A pedestrian footbridge is also in the works, planned for the stretch that goes through the valley. The report said a concrete box culvert will be installed this Friday. Asphalt will be put over this section next year, as it's getting too late into the fall to have it done this year.

Fifteen benches will also be installed through out the trail. The report said this would be done either this year or next spring, depending on the weather.

Finally, solar-powered lighting is also scheduled to go in. The report said the lighting will cover three kilometres of the trail, mostly along the southern sections. Some of the lighting will be installed this fall.

Next steps for the project include a GPS and interactive map for the entire route.

The report also stated that the city should consider closing certain stretches of the pathway during the winter, particularly the areas that will be hard to clear of snow.

Council also indicated that a plan is in the works to decide on a name for the pathway.
