The Saskatchewan Police Commission will be conducting an inquiry into workplace concerns at the Estevan Police Service, according to a release issued this morning.

The inquiry will, according to the release, consist mainly of fact-finding interviews focused on workplace culture, health and well-being supports for police officers, the role and responsibilities of the Chief of Police and the Estevan Board of Police Commissioners, and what effect these factors may have on the quality of police services in Estevan.

The Commission has appointed Aaron Fox to conduct the inquiry. Fox, a Regina-based lawyer, is a partner at McDougall Gauley LLP. According to that company's website, he specializes in criminal law, professional discipline, and civil litigation. He was admitted to the bar association in Saskatchewan in 1978.

Under Subsection 89(1) of The Police Act, 1990, the Commission may hold an inquiry into any matter that is related to the standard of policing and law enforcement provided within a municipality as long as they have the approval of the Minister of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.

The Saskatchewan Police Commission works with police services and boards of police commissioners across the province. They are allowed to conduct audits and reviews, and to provide information to boards of police commissioners. They are also the final appeal body in disciplinary and dismissal matters.

Discover Estevan will have more details as they become available.
