It's that time of year! Thanksgiving presents the opportunity to gather with friends and family and sit down to a turkey feast.

This weekend's trip the grocery store includes the purchase of a turkey for many families this Thanksgiving Long Weekend.

Marnie Webb, Communication Officer with the Food Safety Network explains that it is important to use a turkey thermometer to gauge proper turkey temperature and to properly thaw the turkey before cooking.

Webb adds that it is also important to remember to wash hands prior to meal cooking and preparation with the flu season upon us.

It is also important to remember that once the turkey is cooked, it should not remain out for more than two hours before refrigeration. For more information or questions, you can call the Food Safety Hotline at 1-866-503-7638.
