The heaviest new caseload of COVID-19 in the province in weeks has jumped the number of active cases back over 100. The province announced today they've found 26 new cases in Saskatchewan, bringing the provincial total over 400.

The outbreak in the far north appears to be the source of the majority of cases. Of the 26 new cases, 19 are from the far north region from the cluster around La Loche. Four new cases are in the north, three of which are in Lloydminster. The other three are in the Saskatoon area.

Two more people have recovered from the virus. The provincial total is now 297 recoveries.

The number of cases requiring hospitalization remains at ten. While there is only one COVID-19 positive case involving a patient at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, an outbreak has been declared at the hospital.  Contact tracing and investigation are underway to ensure all contacts are identified and testing has been completed on all known contacts.

The province now has 112 active cases of COVID-19, getting back up over 100 for the first time since mid-April. Of those 112 active cases, 69 are in the far north region. The number of cases in the south remains stagnant at a total of 15.

The province said in a release that the only people who should be travelling to the North are people returning to their primary residence, and people going to La Ronge or Stoney Rapids.  No one should be stopping in between communities or travelling between them.

To date, 30,357 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province.  As of April 29, 2020, when other provincial and national numbers were available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 23,658 people tested per million population, which exceeds the national rate of 20,971 people tested per million population.
