Debate continues on the Saskatchewan Party's first Speech from the Throne, read by Lieutenant Governor Doctor Gordon Barnhart, earlier this week.

According to Dan D'Autremont, the MLA for Cannington and the Minister of Government Services, Liquor and Gaming, and Information Technology, provisions that will be of particular interest to southeast residents include fully-funding the Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization Program, and fixed election dates.

He adds that the Government is committed to putting money into those highways that have been long neglected.

Another highlight of the Speech includes the introduction of the Saskatchewan Growth and Financial Security Act, which requires the provincial budget to be balanced every year, and sets out a formula for the allocation of surpluses.

A vote on the Speech from the Throne will be held before MLA's break for Christmas.
