As you would have felt taking one step outside this week, winter is here and it wants you to understand the power that it holds.

The cold can cause you problems in more ways than one.

There's the obvious possibility of frostbite if you don't wear the proper clothing, and of course, the chance that it prevents your vehicle from turning over or in the morning.

However, when those things combine in addition to slippery road conditions it can lead to disaster.

Darren Simons is the Police Chief with the RCMP in Carlyle and wants to remind you to be well prepared.

"Make sure you bring your cellphone, make sure its charged. Also, make sure your is full of gas, because if it runs out of gas that's where you start to run into some problems and also make sure you have adequate clothing or blankets with you in case you do have to sit on the side of the road."

Simons also wants drivers to pay attention to road conditions and said that in Saskatchewan they are always changing in the winter.
