A cheeseburger for dinner on a Tuesday night might sound like a tempting idea, but it might sound a lot more so when you realize you're doing more than just filling your belly by purchasing it.

As they've done every Tuesday for months now, Blackbeard's and The Beef are doing Burgers for a Cause today. Every Tuesday the restaurant sets aside $5 from every bacon cheeseburger and fries combo sold to go to a charitable cause of their choice. This week, the money raised from the burgers is going to the Estevan Rotary Club.

"We feel so thankful for all of the community support," said Rotary Club President Dr. Amanda Olsen. "We have all of our meetings at the Days Inn and Blackbeard's caters for us every week, so for them to give back to us is just amazing."

A number of the club's other fundraisers have had to be pushed back indefinitely due to COVID-19, so it's been a tough year to raise money for the club. Nonetheless, they have some projects they're working on that the money raised today could definitely help with.

"We have a couple of different commitments that we set last year coming up," said Olsen. "One is that we are doing a dressing room sponsor for the AAA Bears hockey team. We're also doing some renovations down at Cactus Park for the ball diamonds."

Olsen added they were planning on doing a lobsterfest, she hoped, at some point, though the time for that was still to be determined. In what has been a tougher year, her organization has joined the list of those helped by Blackbeard's, which has been hosting these events every Tuesday for various causes.

"Moving forward we're going to continue to do this every Tuesday I guess until we run out of good causes to support," Blackbeard's owner Jeff Pierson said. "We're really enjoying doing it, and everyone we've done it for so far has been really grateful to us."

Blackbeard's sells the bacon cheeseburger combos on both their lunch and dinner menus. The Rotary Club meets at the Days Inn every Tuesday.
