Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe congratulated Danielle Smith and her UCP on the night of their election win in Alberta.

"I look forward to the continued cooperation and collaboration between our two provinces as we address the challenges facing western Canada and build a prosperous future for this generation and the next," he said on social media.

Smith became premier by winning the UCP leadership vote on October 6, 2022.

Both Moe and Smith have been very outspoken against federal environmental policies.

Saskatchewan released its Saskatchewan First Act - aiming to increase provincial autonomy over natural resources - in November, 2022.

Alberta introduced its sovereignty bill about a month later.
