Scotties opening ceremonies to honour Melodye Pierson

A longtime volunteer and community staple of Estevan will be honoured Wednesday night at Affinity Place.

Melodye Pierson, who passed away in December, will be commemorated during the opening ceremonies of the 2023 Viterra Scotties, which begin at 6 p.m.

"It's just an awesome thing they're doing in memory of my mom," said Pierson's son, Jeff Pierson. "I can tell you she had every plan on volunteering at this, like she did at everything."

"It's a very nice touch."

Melodye Pierson was also honoured at the 2022 Centennial Cup in Estevan before her passing, following many years of volunteer work and billeting with the Estevan Bruins organization.

The Scotties run until Sunday, with the men's provincials to follow next week.
