It almost seemed like they were walking in to a trap, as this is their first time showing up to the event.

The Bowlt Classic is a high caliber basketball tournament held in Saskatoon every year. The event pulls in many teams all over the province to compete for a title in each of their divisions. This year, the ECS Senior Boys Basketball Team were invited and came out strong.

"We ended up getting bronze in our eight-team division. This year we were placed in the orange division, which isn't the highest level, but it is our first year there," expressed Head Coach Shane Ross.

Considering that this is their first crack at the competition, getting the bronze title secures them a spot for next year. They are also hopeful to be a part of the 'Gold Division', which will depend on the competition lined up for next year.

As far as encountering many teams from all over the province, there are a few tricks that they are looking into implementing in the team.

"One thing that we did learn is that we are quite a bit bigger than other teams, which is a nice advantage to have; it's just a matter of using it as a strength. Also, we were down for most of our games and we won three out of the four that we played. We picked up some adversity; playing through the match even though we are down."

According to Ross, he has three guys as a secret weapon on his team: John Sasi, Donny Mortenson, and Wyatt Haux.

"Everyone feeds off of them. For the most part, the team is just following with their confidence. One thing that I want them to improve on is to be more vocal. Right now, they are just leading by example, which is good. however, all the best teams, no matter what level, they all talk."

The team is currently recuperating, as they prepare for another tournament in Weyburm on December 9-10.
