As the dust starts to settle on the issue of the federal announcement regarding the federal government's plan on phasing out coal fired power production by 2030, more people start to speak out. The City of Estevan already tossed their hat in the ring, as well as the Estevan Chamber of Commerce. Souris-Mountain MP Dr. Robert Kitchen is next in line.

"I am extremely disappointed in this announcement and the way it was made. It has a big impact on our community. It's the typical Liberal step, where they are making announcement without consultation with the provinces," expressed Souris-Mountain MP Dr. Robert Kitchen.

He reiterated the Chamber's statement on the topic: this is the same way they handled the Carbon Tax announcement.

"How is this going to be managed in the next 14 years? The reality is if all of the power plants go down at the same time, how are we going to get that energy source and provide that to people in Saskatchewan? Is that going to drive a cost?"

It has been mentioned by dignitaries around Estevan, but Kitchen spoke on the important of coal.

"Coal provides a significant amount of energy to Saskatchewan. We need to have those units here. The bigger concern is the Carbon Tax that the federal government wants to impose will make us noncompetitive with the U.S."

He added that the United States is going the opposite of the Carbon Tax, where they are planning to decrese the cost of electricity by adding more coal-fired power stations. Kitchen concludes by praising the measures that Saskatchewan has taken to combat climate change.

"Bottom-line, we have taken steps in Saskatchewan with the Carbon Capture and Storage Project in Estevan. It's doing what we need it to do."
