The Southeast Sun Devils U16 softball team played their last game of the year last night as the team lost to the Lumsden Cubs in the Playoff Semi-finals.

The Cubs took the game 7-0, eliminating the Sun Devils and ending what had been a great run.

Besides placing in the semi-finals, the Sun Devils had also taken Bronze in provincials, placing above any other team in their league.

Coach Morgan Walter says the team has a lot to be proud of from their performances over this season.

"Obviously not the way we wanted to go out, but we're proud of the girls and how far they've come," said Walter, "We can't be disappointed that we made it to the semi-final of league playoff and ended up finishing third in the league so once again nothing to be ashamed of, but it obviously wasn't our best showing."

"I don't think we really expected it, but we really picked ourselves up and had an outstanding postseason performance. we won 2 out of our 4 postseason games, we finished higher in the league than we went in rank, so we went in at 4th in the league and we finished in 3rd so we jumped a spot which was impressive and something to be proud of."

The team will have some extra preparation for next year - instead of losing the older girls as they move up a bracket, the team is instead changing to a U17 team, which means that the team's composition will remain largely the same.

Despite that, they'll still be holding tryouts to see if any new members want to join.

"We have full intentions of, if all the girls are wanting to come back that would be great, but we'll probably still host tryouts in September sometime, and then we pick our team."

"We're going to train all winter so we'll have an indoor facility here in Estevan that we do small groups sessions all winter periodically throughout the week, then there will be a couple of sessions that will have all the girls there if the pandemic holds up."
