UPDATE: As of 3:05 PM local time, Environment Canada has issued a tornado watch for all the RMs listed below. While not as serious as a warning, it does mean there may be conditions capable of producing tornadoes around the southeast, including in the Carlyle, Carnduff, Redvers, Oxbow, Bienfait, Lampman, and Stoughton areas.

Environment Canada still thinks the chance of rain in the southeast is relatively low for tonight, at about 30 percent as of this writing. If we do get rain, however, there's a chance we get an awful lot of it and a few of the extras that often come along for the ride.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for most of southeast Saskatchewan at the moment. The potentially affected areas include the R.M. of Antler including Redvers, Antler, and Wauchope, the R.M. of Argyle including Gainsborough and Carievale, R.M. of Brock including Arcola and Kisbey, R.M. of Browning including Lampman, R.M. of Coalfields including Bienfait and North Portal, R.M. of Enniskillen including Oxbow and Northgate, R.M. of Moose Creek including Alameda, R.M. of Moose Mountain including Carlyle and Manor, R.M. of Mount Pleasant including Carnduff, R.M. of Reciprocity including Alida, R.M. of Storthoaks including Storthoaks and Fertile, and R.M. of Tecumseh including Stoughton, Forget, and Heward.

Environment Canada releases these alerts when the conditions are right for a storm capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail, and heavy rain. They expect conditions for this storm to be right in the late afternoon and early evening.

The good news is Environment Canada expects this watch to pass later this evening as it moves into western Manitoba. The bad news is, some portions of this storm may have the ability to produce tornados.

"Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles, and cause serious injury.," warned the release. "Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
